Sophie Scott-Maunder (she/her), Jonathan Shirley (he/him), and Laura Robinson (she/her) make up Soft Plastics, an indie rock trio based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa (Wellington, NZ) and London. Combining brooding shoegaze with endlessly atmospheric indie rock, Soft Plastics expertly blend melody and groove with moments of noise and power.

Their long-awaited debut album ‘Saturn Return’ was released in 2023 to much fanfare in the indie music scene. Recorded with producer and sound engineer James Goldsmith at the Surgery Studios, the album feels bracingly familiar for anyone who has been put through Saturn’s wringer, and provides an illuminated pathway for those among us still ticking off their twenties.

‘Saturn Return’ was nominated for the best independent debut at the 2024 Taite Music Prize.

"Soft Plastics’ unhurried sound feels like a lush antidote to the addictive rush of so much modern music" - Rolling Stone Aus

"Soft Plastics are one of those bands who are going to go places" - Karyn Hay, RNZ
